Taylor Swift’s Place in This World lyrics stood out the most to me. I can relate to all the words in the song especially this part:
“I don’t know what I want, so don’t ask
Cause I’m still trying to figure it out
Don’t know what’s down this road, I’m just walking
Trying to see through the rain coming down
Taylor wrote this song when she was moving to Nashville from Pennsylvania in hopes of making a music career. She knew where she wanted to go but didn’t know how to get there and that is what inspired her to write this song.
I have never moved but I know there are many times when I listen to this song and feel like I can relate to it. I am not “lost” in the sense that many people may interpret this song to mean, but I am definitely still trying to figure out what I want. Especially when people ask me, “Where are you going to College?” “What are you going to do after you graduate?” My unchanging answer has also been, “I am still trying to figure it out.” What a coincidence! These are the exact words from the song. Many times I find myself wandering down a road trying to get to the spot when the rain stops coming down and I keep on walking until I get to that point. Too often, however, I never find the clearance, I remain in the rain soaking wet and confused.
This song also brings a happy memory to me when I listen to it. I seem to be drawn to songs that take me back in time to a carefree moment. This song is one of those times. I was in 5th grade and our choir class began the first ever Oakwood Idle at Oakwood Intermediate school. One of my best friends was in that class with me and even though I did not know it at the time, that was her last year living in College Station before she moved. She had a beautiful voice and her favorite singer was Cobi Caillat. This was also the year I was first introduced to Taylor Swift from another student. I remember even then I felt like I could relate to every one of Taylor’s songs but this one stood out to me the most. I could not sing the high notes to save my life, but I sang it anyway because I liked it. I feel like this song is one of those songs that any and everyone can relate to in someway because we have all been through times when we have no clue of where were headed but we just keep walking.
